Melville, NY, February 14, 2012 – Newsday has been recognized by the New York News Publishers Association with three Awards for Excellence for its superior journalism. Award winners will be honored at a reception in Albany on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
The Newsday Sports staff was recognized in the Distinguished Sports Coverage category for their work on the 2011 baseball preview section of the newspaper. Newsday photographer Alejandra Villa won in the Distinguished Feature Photography category for her work on the "Marissa" project, which chronicles the story of a young Long Islander with an extremely rare disease. For their work on 9/11 anniversary coverage, the Newsday.com staff received an award in the Distinguished Multi-Media Presentation category.
