In May, members of the self-styled “Mangionistas” stood in front of cameras outside the Manhattan Criminal Courts Building, shocking onlookers and online viewers by saying that the children of the health care executive whom Luigi Mangione killed were better off without their father.
And as they spoke, badges that read “City of New York” and “PRESS” were hanging around their necks.
At the time, a spokeswoman for Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that the administration was “reassessing the city’s process and standards for press credentialing.”
Now a bill in the City Council, backed by Julie Menin, the Council speaker, would amend the process to suspend or revoke press credentials, making it easier for the city to rescind the cards that allow reporters greater access behind police lines and City Hall and courthouses.
