A GOP Colorado lawmaker who serves on the state’s powerful budget-writing committee said he will hold state agencies accountable if they don’t prioritize their advertising spending with local Colorado news outlets.

Mesa County Republican Rep. Rick Taggart threw down the gauntlet on Thursday during a legislative panel at the Colorado Press Association’s annual convention in Northglenn.

The Western Slope legislator’s warning stems from a notable footnote that lawmakers this spring voted unanimously to include in the state budget.
