Ankler Media, the most incisive and trusted voice covering the entertainment industry, has announced the appointment of Katey Rich as awards editor. She joins Ankler Media after 10 years at Vanity Fair, where she was most recently the awards and audio editor. In her new role, Rich will lead and be the primary writer for The Ankler’s Prestige Junkie newsletter and launch a companion podcast. She will also be a featured moderator at live events. She’ll report to Executive Editor David Lidsky.

During her tenure at Vanity Fair, Rich was the founder and cohost of Vanity Fair's Little Gold Men podcast, the cohost of two Vanity Fair Oscar Party livestreams, and editor of the Awards Insider special issues. Prior to Vanity Fair, Rich was the editor-in-chief of CinemaBlend, a publication covering the latest in television, movies and streaming, and an editorial assistant at Film Journal International.

“I am thrilled to have Katey join our team. She has had a long relationship with Richard Rushfield, and a keen understanding and appreciation of great TV and films and real talent in how to convey that passion to an audience,” says Janice Min, CEO and editor-in-chief, Ankler Media.

“I’ve been an Ankler subscriber from the very beginning, and I’m so excited to bring The Ankler’s signature wry insight and intelligence to Emmy, Oscars and festival coverage year-round to its audience, the most passionate, invested and influential decision-makers in the entertainment industry,” says Rich.

The Ankler has experienced a meteoric rise, up 62 percent year-over-year in ad revenue in 2023, and up more than 500 percent in subscription revenue since launching as a Y Combinator company in January 2022. With 80,000 subscribers across its titles and more than 1.3 million podcast downloads, The Ankler has expanded into live events and is now the third largest business publication on Substack, having both predicted and ridden the wave of change in the entertainment industry. While much of the media industry continues to contract, Ankler Media is steadily growing with its masthead now including contributors Claire Atkinson, Gregg Kilday, Manori Ravindran, Erik Barmack and The Optionist’s Andy Lewis as well as staffers Elaine Low, executive editor David Lidsky and Peter Keifer. Sales phenom London Sanders is now Head of Sales.

Rich starts on April 29.
