Distributing $13,530,000 in fall grants, Hearst Foundations aided 96 organizations across 26 states and the District of Columbia. The Hearst Foundations serve as a national philanthropic resource and have distributed more than 22,300 grants to 6,335 organizations, totaling over $1.4 billion since 1946. In 2021, nearly 320 grants were awarded, totaling $41.7 million, including COVID-19 and Texas winter storm response grants. This year, the Foundations’ work continues to help people of all backgrounds in the United States build healthy, productive and inspiring lives.

Grant proposals are submitted by organizations around the country and reviewed by staff based in New York City and San Francisco. These requests are then brought to the board of directors for approval each quarter. The Hearst Foundations are independent private philanthropies operating separately from Hearst.
