The New York Times names a new executive producer for ‘The Headlines’

Posted

I’m thrilled to announce that James Shield is joining The New York Times as the executive producer of “The Headlines.” He comes to The Times with deep experience in launching and running a daily news show. Most recently, he was deputy executive producer of “Stories of Our Times,” the daily narrative news podcast from The Times of London. He joined as a member of the show’s founding team in 2019.

His work has won three golds at the U.K. Audio Production Awards (including best news and current affairs producer in 2022), two silvers from the U.K. Radio Academy, and gold at the British Podcast Awards. He has appeared on AudioUK’s highly competitive news and current affairs shortlist every year since 2018.

James was previously head of audio at the Royal Society of Arts, and has produced work for the BBC, Audible and The New Statesman. In a previous career, he worked in policy and research for one of the United Kingdom’s leading health charities, and as a manager in the National Health Service.

We are delighted James is bringing his talents to The Times and will help “The Headlines” continue to deliver an urgent and compelling report every weekday morning. He starts on April 2.
