By: E&P Staff The real estate Web site Zillow.com is striking up a partnership with more than 280 newspapers to provide local classified information such as for-sale listings and open house information.

Real estate advertisers who place their ads in local papers will have the option to put their listing and open houses on Zillow. Newspapers will be able to use Zillow's platform to enhance their online sites.

The alliance plans to start rolling out the features in the first half of 2008. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Together with Zillow, we bring a unique and compelling set of online marketing tools to enable local brokers and agents to distinguish their listings and abilities," Gregory Schermer, vice president of interactive media at Lee Enterprises, said in a statement. "The result will be a compelling value proposition for advertisers and online users, which we believe will provide long-term opportunities for revenue growth."

Eleven newspapers companies are involved in this partnership, which is an extension of the Yahoo alliance. The companies are the following: Hearst Newspapers, Lee Enterprises, Media General, MediaNews Group, Morris Communications, Paddock Publications, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, E.W. Scripps, Times-Shamrock Communications, Journal Register Co., and the Day Publishing Co.

"We are honored that this consortium of newspaper companies has chosen Zillow as the partner to fast-track their presence in the digital real estate world," Lloyd Frink, president of Zillow, said in a statement. "Research shows that 80% of home buyers use the Internet in the home-buying process."

Headquartered in Seattle, Zillow is one of the largest real estate Web sites where homeowners, buyers, sellers, and real estate agents can find and share information about homes for free.
