By: E&P Staff For 15 of its newspapers and nine of its television stations, The E.W. Scripps Company has chosen a content-management system developed by The World Company, the publisher of the Journal-World in Lawrence, Kan.
In addition to licenses for use of the Ellington News and Ellington Entertainment modules of the content-management system, Scripps acquired source code and the ability to make custom enhancements, World said.
The Scripps newspapers are located in Texas, New Mexico, California, Washington, Colorado, Tennessee, Indiana, Florida, and South Carolina.
"We're extremely pleased to have the usefulness of this software, created by journalists for journalists, validated by Scripps, a visionary, leading-edge company in Internet, as well as video and publishing operations, " Dan Simons, president of The World Company's electronics division, said in a statement.
Bob Benz, general manager of interactive media for Scripps newspapers, said the company had evaluated several other systems and concluded that "Ellington is flexible, robust and will allow us to roll out new products quickly and efficiently."
"It's going to give us a considerable competitive advantage," he said in a prepared statement.
The Ellington content management system was developed by World Online for its principal sites, ljworld.com, Lawrence.com and KUsports.com.
