2000 IRE AWARD WINNERS NAMED

By: Staff Reports Atlanta Journal-Constitution Wins FOI Honor


The 2000 IRE Awards were issued this week by Investigate
Reporters and Editors Inc. Top honors went to The
Nation for its story on how American businesses used
leaded gasoline when they knew there were safer
alternatives, and to WTVF-Nashville for its series on
unethical activities by off-duty police officers.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution won the Freedom of
Information Award for its efforts to obtain Olympic
organizing committee documents.

Also winning IRE awards were the Naples (Fla.) Daily News,
The Detroit News, and The Orange County Register.
