The Washington Post and
Los Angeles Times each won three awards.
In addition, former
Washington Post assistant managing editor Rick Atkinson won the Pulitzer for history for
An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942-1943. He is currently covering the war in Iraq for the newspaper.
The Tribune Co. picked up five Pulitzers, while The New York Times Co. won two awards.
