By: E&P Staff "Pooch Cafe" may become a computer-animated feature film, cartoonist Paul Gilligan reported on his blog.
The news was also mentioned today on Alan Gardner's DailyCartoonist.com blog.
Gilligan -- who does his "Pooch Cafe" comic for more than 275 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate -- said it took 18 months of negotiation to sign the movie contract with Sony.
The Toronto cartoonist added that work will be done on things like the story and character design for the next 12 to 18 months before a decision is made on whether to go into full production.
One of Sony's previous animated films was "Open Season," co-created by "In the Bleachers" cartoonist Steve Moore of Universal.
