By: E&P Staff Mario Garcia, the famed newspaper designer who has been a tireless advocate of tabloid or compact formats, has new advice for print newspapers -- try stitching pages.
In a video posted at E&P's business-oriented
Fitz & Jen blog, Garcia argues stitching overcomes consumer objections to unwieldy newspaper packages, and allows easier sharing of sections. Stitching, which has become the norm among Scandinavian papers, and should be adopted worldwide, Garcia says in this video.
The biggest stumbling block to widespread adoption of stitching is that it's seen as a production rather than content issue, according to Garcia. A "choir of editors" should demand stitching, he says.
