A Times ‘Rising Star’ on the Paper’s Past, and Digital Future

When The New York Times announced to staff in November of last year that it was beginning a “company-wide project to explore ways to engage readers in languages other than English,” it was hardly a surprise that Lydia Polgreen had been tapped to “represent the newsroom” in the initiative.

She keeps her title, deputy international editor, in preparation for which Polgreen served stints at regional newspapers in Albany and Orlando, Fla., followed by several years as a foreign correspondent for the Times, with stops in South Africa (she won a Polk Award in 2006 for her reporting on the Darfur conflict) and India.
