A Year After Henry Deal, Boston Globe Launches Employee-Buyout Plan to 'Reposition' Business

The Boston Globe has issued a memo to employees announcing plans to offer voluntary buyouts, a move that could serve as a precursor to layoffs if too few workers accept the proposal, according a source familiar with the development.

The email from Globe CEO Mike Sheehan was issued to staffers Friday afternoon and outlined a timeline in which Globe employees will receive mail-delivered letters detailing the buyout plan. The letter was sent to all departments, although it is unclear whether the buyout offer has been extended to all Globe employees.
