ABB Wins Contracts From 3 Manufacturers

By: Continuing to see its technology selected to control newspaper presses ABB of Baden, Switzerland, won contracts for controls and management systems for equipment from three manufacturers.

In addition to Wifag's evolution 371 installation at the DZO production center in Oetwil am See, Switzerland (E&P Online, Feb. 19), ABB is to supply R.C.S. Rizzoli Editori S.p.a., publisher of Corriere della Sera, with controls and automation for four KBA Commander presses (each three towers of stacked nine-cylinder units) at its Pessano plant, near Milan. ABB's MPS Production will manage the new and existing presses. MPS Insight will provide management with remote access to production information from all presses. Commissioning starts this August.

The third order is for Presse Druck und Verlags GmbH, Augsburg, Germany, where ABB will equip five triple-wide MAN Roland Colorman XXL presses (totaling nine towers, each with two nine-cylinder satellite units) and supply nine MPS 750 control consoles. The dual-host MPS production-management software will be responsible for managing the new presses and other presses of various generations. It will interface to the already-installed CTP equipment, page planning system, Ferag mailroom, and new roll-handling system. All control consoles will feature ABB's soft proofing system. One also will serve as a training simulator, using Sinapse Graphics Systems software -- the first integrated multiweb simulator for a 6/2 press.

Correction: This copy corrects misinformation supplied to E&P. The Colorman XXL for Press Druck und Verlags does not employ a 10-cylinder design.
