The Audit Bureau of Circulations has completed and released its first Community Newspaper Audit (CNA) report, prepared for The Star-Herald in Scottsbluff, Neb.

The Star-Herald was among the first papers to enroll in the CNA program, which was designed to lower costs for publishers and simplify the audit requirements. More than 300 newspapers have already registered to participate in the CNA service, available to all U.S. newspapers with a daily average paid circ of less than 25,000.

The new audit is a streamlined program that features all-inclusive fees beginning at $2,000 per year; off-site audits that occur every other year and require less publisher preparation and involvement; and simplified rules and reporting requirements. All CNA Publisher's Statements and Audit Reports are published in ABC's online database and are available to ABC member advertisers and advertising agencies.

The completion of the first CAN report comes just weeks after the Audit Bureau announced its new affordable readership service for small to mid-size newspapers. ABC has contracted with American Opinion Research to offer newspapers the opportunity to obtain audited readership studies and report the data via the Audience-FAX program.
