(AP) The publisher of the Aberdeen American News has died after a battle with cancer.
David Leone died Thursday in Palm Desert, Calif., at age 55. The California native had been the newspaper's publisher for about 2 1/2 years.
Charles Pittman with newspaper owner Schurz Communications says Leone was "a great leader, a great thinker and a fine newspaper publisher."
Leone also once worked at the Rapid City Journal. Journal Publisher Brad Slater says Leone was a hard worker but also someone with a sense of humor who was known for being a prankster. He calls Leone's death "very tragic news."
Leone is survived by his wife, Jane, a Pierre native, and five children. A family memorial service is planned Wednesday in California.
