By: E&P Staff AccuWeather.com has announced AccuWeather.com Stratus, a weather widget powered by Adobe AIR software.

AccuWeather.com Status appears as a small, transparent button that can be set to white or dark text for best legibility against a screen's background. The application gives day and night same-day forecasts, and has a fly-out panel that provides five-day forecasts. All forecasts include sky-condition icons and high and low temperatures and can link to AccuWeather.com for more details. Users can store and toggle among up to 65,000 locations.

"Adobe AIR is particularly exciting because it gives us another way for us to engage all kinds of users, regardless of the operating system they use," AccuWeather.com New Media Senior Vice President Jim Candor said in a statement.

"As part of the Adobe Flash Platform, Adobe AIR allows developers to use proven Web technologies to design and build compelling applications and widgets that extend outside the browser to provide a persistent connection with users," said Adrian Ludwig, group product marketing manager for Adobe AIR.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
