ACM Buys Chesapeake Publishing

By: E&P Staff American Consolidated Media (ACM) has agreed to acquire the Chesapeake Publishing Corp. Terms of the deal, brokered by Dirks, Van Essen & Murray were not disclosed.

Chesapeake operates 22 publications throughout Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania including the Maryland dailies Star Democrat in Easton and the Cecil Whig of Elkton.

"The markets and communities served by Chesapeake are some of the most attractive and exciting in the country and we are deeply flattered in having been given the opportunity to purchase this group of publications, Jeremy Halbreich, chairman, president, and CEO of ACM, said in a statement.

ACM is purchasing Chesapeake from Whitcom Partners, which represents the families of Edward Barlow and Robert Blank, who along with others, used to own the New York Herald Tribune, International Herald Tribune, and Parade magazine.

ACM is the Dallas-based wholly-owned subsidiary of Macquarie Media Group, which is publicly traded on the Australian Stock Exchange.
