Advance Mich. Papers Buy All-GMA Mailroom

By: Jim Rosenberg Valley Publishing Co., which will produce The Bay City Times and The Saginaw News at its Monitor Township, Mich., plant, bought a complete packaging system from GMA, Allentown, Pa.

Valley will install two SLS3000 Inserters, one FlexiRoll buffer system, two NewsGrip-A conveyors, two 365 Topveyor conveyors, and the SAM production control and planning system.

The Advance Publications dailies combined operations to maximize resources and reduce costs. Each newspaper, however, will maintain its own downtown circulation, advertising, and editorial offices while all production and packaging will move to the new facility, which is expected to begin operations in early 2004.
