CondeNet, the online arm of Advance Publications, is expected to announce
Thursday that it will close two of its five Web sites, Phys and Swoon, to focus
more on vertical markets, including travel, food and fashion.

According to sources, CondeNet president Sarah Chubb gave her team the news
on Wednesday, saying no layoffs are expected as Phys and Swoon staffers will be
absorbed into CondeNet's remaining Epicurious, Concierge and Style.com sites.

Phys, a health site, was the official home of Conde Nast's Self magazine,
while Swoon, featuring content adapted from Mademoiselle, GQ and
Glamour, was a relationship site targeting twenty- and thirty-something
men and women.

CondeNet execs said previously that their newest site, Style.com, home to
Vogue and W online, would eventually expand to include
Glamour, Mademoiselle, and Jane magazines online.

Based in Staten Island, N.Y., Advance Publications also owns a number of
newspapers and regional Web sites.
