After 216 Years, London's 'Times' Goes All Tabloid

Posted
By: E&P Staff For the first time in its 216-year history, The Times of London is being printed entirely in a tabloid format, editors announced in Monday's editions. The switched completes a partial change to tabloid that began a year ago when the daily began offering a tabloid version along with its traditional broadsheet format.

As of Monday, however, all editions of the 660,000 daily circulation publication are being published as a tabloid.

"Since we launched the compact edition almost a year ago, it has been clear that the format has attracted many new readers to The Times and further expanded our influence," editor Robert Thomson wrote in a note to readers. "While our principal rivals are in serious decline, an increasing number of readers has noticed the qualitative difference in coverage and switched to The Times."
