Arguably the hottest gossip in town Thursday is the news that Richard Johnson is leaving the New York Post’s Page Six after nearly 25 years as editor of the noted gossip column.

Johnson is moving to Hollywood, where he will work on new digital ventures for parent company News Corp., according to the Post. No further details have been announced.

Succeeding him is Fleet Street veteran Emily Smith, a Page Six contributor for whom Editor-in-Chief Col Allan has high hopes.

"Emily is a star and we are thrilled with her reporting, writing and leadership," Allan told the paper Thursday. "She is going to be a fixture in this town for a long time to come."

Johnson wrote Thursday, “I love Page Six and The Post, but I've always wanted to give Los Angeles a try.”
