After 4 Months, G.M. Out At 'La Raza'

By: Mark Fitzgerald Newspaper veteran Steve Forrestal is leaving La Raza after just four months as general manager and controller of the Chicago Spanish-language weekly, Publisher Robert J. Armband confirmed Tuesday.

"Basically, he stressed a quality-of-life concern" in submitting his resignation, Armband said. Forrestal is staying on until a replacement is hired, he added.

When Forrestal was hired in January, Armband said the paper had been looking for a "CFO-type" to handle the increased financial workload from the newspaper's growth and its reporting responsibilities to its corporate owner, New York City-based ImpreMedia. [STET]

Forrestal's 20-year career includes a 10-year stint with Tribune Co.'s South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale. In Chicago, Tribune publishes an edition of its daily Spanish-language newspaper Hoy and distributes a weekend total market coverage (TMC) that competes directly with La Raza, a weekend tabloid with a distribution of 187,401. Of that total, about 160,000 is delivered free to households in heavily Hispanic ZIP codes.
