By: E&P Staff Sabah, one of Turkey's largest dailies and part of the Ciner Group, selected Agfa's violet-laser computer-to-plate systems to convert to full digital platemaking. Sabah currently uses another manufacturer's analog equipment.
The deal is Agfa's second major sale, through local distributor Reproset, to a Turkish newspaper. Dogan/Hurriyet chose Agfa CTP earlier this year.
The order consists of three high-speed Polaris XTV units with Arkitex software and Sublima cross-modulation screening. Sabah will be the first newspaper using the technology in Turkey.
The new systems are to be installed at Sabah's Istanbul print site (it has other plants in Ankara, Izmir, Antalya and Adana), which will consume approximately 200,000 square meters of violet plates per year.
