By: E&P Staff Agfa announced Thursday that it named Al Brunner director of its North American newspaper segment. The former president and chief operating officer of Autologic Information International has been with Agfa since it acquired Autologic two years ago, during which time he helped integrate the two organizations. Brunner takes over the position held by Bob Caplan, who is retiring after 27 years with Agfa.
Brunner's career began 30 years ago at Compugraphic, where for eight years he held sales, marketing and sales management positions, assisting in the expansion of the customer base. He eventually headed North American sales and marketing at Autologic Inc., which saw its market share grow from 10% in 1984 to 50% in 1994, and assisted in the merger of Autologic and Information International Inc.
Before heading its North American newspaper segment in 1999, Caplan held various senior sales management roles at Agfa, including six years as western regional director. Cited by Agfa Graphic Systems, North America, President Robert Stabler for his work in bringing violet platesetting technology to newspapers, he will remain active in Agfa's business development through April.
