Agfa Shifts Wilmington CTP Development to OEM

Posted
By: E&P Staff Agfa Graphics has announced plans to end development and production of computer-to-plate equipment in Wilmington, Mass., as "part of our strategy to substantially improve our operational efficiency and competitive position" Agfa Graphics President Stefaan Vanhooren said in a statement.

Agfa Graphics said it will continue distributing total solutions (including a new range of printing plates, equipment, software and service) and has extended its OEM relationship with a principal maker of commercial CTP equipment. Agfa will show a wider range of platesetters, replacing its high-end Avalon machines, at the Drupa exhibition in spring.

Agfa said it intends to phase out work at the Wilmington factory, where a plan was developed for the approximately 150 employees involved. Agfa Graphics' other U.S. operations, such as service, IT, sales and marketing, will continue to operate from Wilmington.
