Agfa's Big Deals, East and West

Posted
By: E&P Staff Agfa signed a 5 million-euro contract with Italian national daily Corriere della Sera for prepress production systems at multiple print sites. The deal comprises hardware, software, and services. A five-year contract for digital plates also was signed.

Installations will be made over five months, making it Agfa's largest single newspaper deal.

At the same time, Agfa announced two deals in Southeast Asia. After two months of testing, Singapore Press Holdings Ltd. signed for Agfa's Arkitex workflow software to automate film imagesetting for 14 broadsheets and tabloids.

A contract with publisher Utusan Melayu Berhad, in Kuala Lumpur, will make Utusan the first Malaysian newspaper to fully automate and streamline all prepress operations using Arkitex -- from front end to plate output, including page pairing, throughput maximization and automatic ink-setting adjustment. By next year, the system also is to link to Utusan's MAN Roland Pecom press-control system in Bangi and Prai.
