By: E&P Staff The Grapevine (Texas) Sun, an A.H. Belo-owned weekly, is shutting down with its final edition this Thursday.
The paper has published for 114 years, and has been part of A.H. Belo's Denton Publishing unit since 1992, according to a Pegasus News story by Teresa Gubbins.
"It wasn't totally unexpected, we had known it was coming," said Editor Les Cockrell, one of three remaining staffers. "But we were only able to announce it around the first of April. We wanted to get things taken care of."
Cockrell and General Manager Jenny Moore will transfer to the Denton Record Chronicle.
The Sun had a circulation of about 7,500. It competed with the weekly Grapevine Courier, which is delivered to 24,000 households in Grapevine and Colleyville.
