By: E&P Staff The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., has laid off "between 40 and 45 employees," including 16 in the newsroom, the newspaper reported Monday night on its Web site.
Press-Enterprises Co. CEO Ron Redfern said the layoffs were necessitated by falling revenue and circulation over the past year. He told the paper, in an article by Jack Katzanek, that the A.H. Belo Corp.-owned newspaper is on track to lost $1.4 million in 2009.
Redfern told the paper he is hoping this will be the last round of layoffs for the rest of the year and for 2010.
