By: E&P Staff The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wants to add a new full-time conservative voice to its editorial ranks, and is looking to the public to draw some candidates.
The AJC has opened the selection process to the general public, and interested candidates may review the selection criteria and submit their names online at www.ajc.com/newcolumnist.
Jim Wooten, the Journal-Constitution?s longtime conservative editorial columnist, will depart the editorial board on June 30 -- after which the paper will continue to publish Wooten?s ?Thinking Right? column weekly and feature his blog online at ajc.com/opinion.
"Jim has been a thoughtful and important voice for us,? AJC editor Julia Wallace said in a statement. ?We will miss him as he scales back, but we look forward to the new columnist who will fill those big shoes."
Said Wooten, "It's clear to me that the AJC does have a strong commitment to maintaining vigorous debate in our editorial voices, and I'm excited about the process of involving readers in the selection of my successor."
Interested candidates must complete the form at www.ajc.com/newcolumnist by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 1. Senior AJC editors will review the submissions and select a group of candidates to advance to further rounds of review. The AJC plans to publish the work of the finalists both in print and online, and readers will be invited to share their comments.
The final selection for the new columnist will be announced in mid-March.
