By: E&P Staff The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has announced the retirement of Operations Vice President Stan Pantel.

Calling Pantel "the chief architect for many of the successes we have achieved in both our plants," Senior Vice President, Operations, Robert W. Eickhoff said in a statement, "He has built a strong team that will continue to contribute to the growth of this company."

Pantel began his career in 1973 while in college working for Cox Newspapers' Austin (Texas) American-Statesman. Taking on additional responsibilities, he oversaw growth of the production department's size and scope over the years.

In 1989, Pantel was promoted to operations vice president for the AJC. "I've had a love affair with the newspaper business for 35 years. It has been a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the community every day through the work we do in production," he said.

Announcing the retirement, Eickoff said "Pantel's leadership was critical to the inception and ultimate success" of the newspaper's pending consolidation of all printing at its Gwinnett plant, which will benefit from $30 million in press enhancements to provide more color, product options and positioning flexibility.
