By: E&P Staff Alex Sanchez has been named publisher of Al Dia, the Spanish-language daily published by The Dallas Morning News.
Sanchez, 42, had been president and general manager of the newspaper since last August.
"Over the past five months, he has reinvigorated our sales efforts and brought many new clients and talented recruits to Al Dia," said Cyndy Carr, senior vice president for the News' niche products.
Al Dia Managing Editor Alfredo Carbajal will now report to Sanchez, the paper said. He succeeds Gilbert Bailon, who resigned in October to become editorial page editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Immediately prior to joining Al Dia, Sanchez was vice president and general manager at LBI Media, and ran seven media properties in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. He has previously worked at Univision and Telemundo.
