Alternative Weeklies Thrive—in the East Bay

According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s C. W. Nevius, “opinionated, news-driven independent newspapers are slipping away.” Nevius’ January 16 lament was triggered by news that the SF Weekly will have more of an arts an entertainment focus, which is how I and likely many others already saw the paper.

Nevius says he misses the days when the Bay Guardian called him a “conservative suburban twit, ” perhaps not realizing that he can find similar insults in the comments section following most of his columns.
