The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians on Friday purchased the Amador Ledger-Dispatch for $1.2 million and will merge the business with the tribe’s newly christened Acorn newspaper started just a few weeks prior, according to Jackson Rancheria spokesman Doug Elmets.
“The tribe’s intent is to invigorate that local news in and around Jackson and that region and to certainly allow for the publication to have complete journalistic independence while allowing the tribe to diversify its investments,” Elmets said.
