Carol J. Will has been named Vice President/Human Resources of American Community Newspapers (ACN), Chief Executive Officer Richard M. Franks announced today.
"Carol is the consummate human-resources professional," Franks said. "She has gone above-and-beyond in doing a superb job to strengthen ACN's employee relations and also in negotiating with benefits providers."
ACN is a diversified national media company operating strategically clustered and targeted community newspapers, websites, magazines, and niche products in four top U.S. markets in Texas, Ohio, Minnesota, and Virginia.
"Without a doubt, operating in four states involves special human-resources challenges and considerations," Franks said. "Carol's attention to detail, her understanding of employee relations, and her legal expertise are a rare combination, and of tremendous benefit to ACN."
An attorney with a Juris Doctor and Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas, Will oversees guidance and management of corporate and employee policies and programs for ACN's four divisions.
Will is a Kansas native where prior to joining ACN, she served in the Chief Counsel's Office for Johnson County, Kansas and then as the Governmental Affairs Coordinator for YUM Brands, Inc., operators of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and other fast-food franchises after moving to the Dallas area.
Will expressed excitement about ACN's future. "In all four divisions, we're making great progress and we're on the move," she said. "As the economy rebounds and ACN's work environment continues to improve, employees are more cheerful than I've ever seen them. One remarked that it's "like we're getting back to the glory days."
Franks cited Will's professionalism in helping to move the company forward. "Carol is a critical member of a terrific team that's taking ACN to the next level," he said. "Recognition of her contribution and leadership in human resources is well deserved."
