By: E&P Staff Jeremy L. Halbreich is resigning as chairman, president, and CEO of American Consolidated Media (ACM), the Dallas-based chain he founded in 1998 and sold to the Australian investment firm Macquarie Media Group (MMG) last year, the companies announced Wednesday.

Halbreich will remain a director, and take the new title of non-executive chairman.

Halbreich, a former president of The Dallas Morning News, said he had formed a new holding company, American Consolidated Ventures LLC, to pursue opportunities in the newspaper and media businesses.

"I have been planning this transition of my role and responsibilities at ACM since the February 2007 sale of the company to MMG," Halbreich said in a statement. "Almost 18 months ago, I made a commitment to the new owners to successfully execute the ale transaction in early 2007, support and assist them to rapidly expand the company's holdings of local, community newspapers in the U.S. and concurrently transition our operations to work smoothly under the umbrella of the publicly traded company based in Sydney."

He noted the chain has grown from about 40 papers in three states in 2007 to more than 100 flags in ten states.
