An NEA Reprise for the 'Luann' Holiday Strips

Posted Wednesday, October 8, 2008 12:00 am

By: E&P Staff Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA), the syndicate that has distributed an annual holiday comic since 1937, is offering a reprise this year of a past Christmas sequence by "Luann" creator Greg Evans.

"The Search for Santa" is a 16-strip storyline that looks at Christmas from the perspective of Luann's dog Puddles, who's puzzled over why Santa doesn't bring gifts to canines. So Puddles embarks on a long journey to find Santa.

Newspapers can run the series from Dec. 8 through Christmas Day. The strips are available to NEA's 600 clients, and for individual sale to other papers.

"Luann" is distributed to about 350 papers by United Feature Syndicate, which is part of the same company as NEA.

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
