By: E&P Staff The Purina Animal Hall of Fame gave "For Better or For Worse" creator Lynn Johnston (and her Farley cartoon dog) a Special Award of Merit for "chronicling the bond between people and their pets."
Johnston, a Canada-based cartoonist whose comic runs in 2,000-plus newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate, received the honor at an induction ceremony in Toronto.
In other Johnston news, the "For Better or For Worse" creator will be among the syndicated cartoonists participating in a book-signing at Borders, 150 N. State St., Chicago, from 5-7 p.m. on May 25. The event takes place just before the start of the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award meeting during Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
Other cartoonists slated to attend the book-signing include Bill Amend ("FoxTrot"/Universal), Darrin Bell ("Candorville"/Washington Post Writers Group and "Rudy Park"/United Media), Greg Evans ("Luann"/United), Paul Gilligan ("Pooch Cafe"/Universal), Rick Kirkman ("Baby Blues"/King Features Syndicate), Jef Mallett ("Frazz"/United), Mark Pett ("Lucky Cow"/Universal), Dan Piraro ("Bizarro"/King), and Mort Walker ("Beetle Bailey"/King).
