By: E&P Staff Animated editorial cartoon pioneer Mark Fiore has signed a distribution deal with Universal Press Syndicate and its uclick online division.
Fiore, who has been self-syndicating his weekly animations to clients such as CBSNews.com and the San Francisco Chronicle's SFGate.com, said in a statement: "I'm excited about working with uclick and Universal Press Syndicate to bring my work to a wider audience."
And the San Francisco-based creator added: "The best part is, instead of just repurposing print cartoons for the Web, we'll be able to showcase my animated political cartoons that are created for a world where motion, voice, and music are able to reach out and grab the audience in a much more immersive way."
Clients of uclick include online newspapers, other news sites, and search portals.
The award-winning Fiore (profiled in E&P's Oct. 27, 2003, issue) embarked on his animation career in 2001, after being let go as a print editorial cartoonist for the San Jose Mercury News.
Fiore's animations can viewed at
MarkFiore.com () or
uclick.com. People can also add his animations to their customized e-mails of favorite comics through uclick's "My Comics Page" subscription service.
