By: (AP) David C. Sharp, publisher of The Ann Arbor News since 1999, will take over as publisher of The Flint Journal on Monday.

Sharp, 58, replaces Roger D. Samuel, who has resigned. Samuel served as the Journal's publisher since 1996.

The Journal, the News, and six other Michigan newspapers are owned by Advance Publications Inc.

"We look forward to the opportunities and to our experiences at The Flint Journal, and we will continue to work closely with our colleagues in Ann Arbor," Sharp said in a story published in the Journal.

Laurel Champion, Sharp's assistant, has been named interim publisher of the News.

As assistant to the publisher, she has had responsibility for circulation, marketing, and promotion for the Ann Arbor newspaper.

Champion, 35, started working at the News in 2001 and has worked at The Times-Picayune in New Orleans and at two newspapers in Syracuse, N.Y.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity of continuing the excellent work Dave has started, and I feel privileged to work among such a talented staff here at The Ann Arbor News," Champion told the newspaper.

Advance owns daily newspapers in nine states as well as weekly newspapers and business journals.
