Another Editorial Cartoonist Gone as Catrow Leaves Ohio Paper

Posted
By: E&P Staff Yet another editorial cartoonist is leaving a newspaper, but this time it looks like the decision was voluntary.

David Catrow yesterday departed the Springfield (Ohio) News-Sun -- which he joined in 1984 -- to spend more time doing children's books and working on animated films.

As E&P noted on March 14, Catrow helped create the look of this year's "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!" movie. Also, a story by News-Sun reporter Andrew McGinn said the cartoonist's "Plantzilla" book is being developed into an animated TV series. Catrow has illustrated more than 60 books.

Catrow's editorial cartoons were formerly syndicated by Copley News Service. He also drew the "Wild Things" comic formerly syndicated by United Media.

The News-Sun departure of Catrow was mentioned today on Alan Gardner's Daily Cartoonist blog.
