Another Goss Sale in South America

By: E&P Staff Diario Del Sur has invested in a new 10-unit Goss Community SSC press to improve quality and boost existing color and pagination capacity. The press is due to be installed later this year in a new press hall at the company's facility in Bogota, Colombia.

In addition to printing the southern regional daily newspaper Diario Del Sur and 50-year-old sports daily Diario Deportivo, the new press also will be used to print a number supermarket and grocery store inserts. Diario Del Sur is owned by Confecciones Luber, a catalog clothing company in Colombia.

"We have been using Community SSC presses since they were launched in the 1960s and have found them to be both robust and reliable," Group President Hernando Su?rez Burgos said in a statement, "and will now be able to increase the number of color pages in one print run for our sports daily... to 16."

With a speed of up to 35,000 copies per hour, Diario Del Sur's Community will include two four-high towers, a two-high tower, a folder with upper former to provide two sections, and four reel stands. The press will have a 22-inch cut-off.

Since its introduction in 1962, the singlewidth, one-plate-around Community press system has become the world's most popular web press for newspapers, with more than 35,000 units sold.
