ANSI Report Creates Newspaper Printing Standard Color Profile

Posted
By: E&P Staff Advertisers, designers and printers will be able to create more accurate color profiles for ad proofs and digital workflows between different print media with a new industry technical report defining the color gamut for newspaper print production, recently approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for the SNAP International Color Consortium (ICC) Profile.

The ANSI Technical Report and SNAP 2007 ICC profile lets designers and advertisers "create color images specifically for newspaper production and maximize the color capabilities of the process," according to information from ANSI. The color profiles are used in PDF/X workflows, so that ad agencies and designers can assign color information to PDF files sent to newspapers.

"The characterization data set and ICC profile were created using colorimetric data measurements from 102 newspapers in North America, with information collected only from newspapers that have achieved the SNAP Certificate standard," according to ANSI.

An International Color Consortium color-management profile based on this characterization data can be found on the ICC and NAA Web sites (www.color.org and www.naa.org/snap).
