By: Charles Geraci Next month, The Associated Press will begin consolidating its New York operations from four current locations in Manhattan to 450 W. 33rd Street, the same building that houses the Daily News. The AP will occupy floors 14-16 at its new location.
"For the first time we will be able to consolidate all of our New York operations at a cheaper rate," said Jack Stokes, media relations manager for AP. "The consolidation there will be less than anything we could have gotten here [at AP's current headquarters in tony Rockefeller Center]."
All of the AP's New York employees, around 1,000 in all, will be making the move in a phased operation that will be done over three consecutive weekends, beginning on July 16.
The AP will be renting the new property, as it is at the current locations.
"Because we'll all be working in the same space, we will have new technology that will enable us to more easily and efficiently operate," said Stokes.
The AP first announced the move last June. The news cooperative has been located in midtown Manhattan's Rockefeller Center for about 65 years.
