(Mediaweek) - APB Online
Inc., operator of APBnews.com, will resume paying some employees while
it talks with potential strategic partners. The Web site will continue
daily publishing on a limited basis for the near future while it holds
discussions with investors who have recently expressed interest in the
company.

On June 5, the company laid off its entire staff of 140 after
announcing that it had exhausted its funding. The site has since
continued to operate, with most staffers coming to work as volunteers
while looking for new jobs. About 11 staffers will be paid during the
company's discussions with potential partners, said Jim Edwards,
APBnews.com celebrity news editor, including some senior editors,
production and tech staffers and two freelancers.

APBnews.com also received two journalism awards following the
announcement: The National Press Club named it best online news site
and staff reporter Kevin Heldman won a Livingston Award for outstanding
young journalists.
