By: Staff Reports But There's Still No Money
Struggling along with a volunteer staff, APBNews.com has won the
National Press Club Award for best journalism Web site. The laurel
includes a $1,000 prize, but that won't be enough to keep the crime
news site running.
New York-based APB Online Inc. announced that negotiations with a
major prospective strategic investor have ended unsuccessfully. The
company says it will continue to look for new investors.
APBNews.com's founders announced June 5 that the site was out of money
and that the 140-person staff would be let go. Since then, many
employees have remained on the job, working as volunteers in the hopes
that the operation can be saved.
The site also won an honorable mention in the Freedom of the Press
category.
