Apple Adds Its Own Do Not Track Tool

Apple has built a tool to limit data tracking into a forthcoming edition of Safari. It's more in line with the Federal Trade Commission's request feature than the literal blocking in Internet Explorer.

The tool is designed to deal with websites that share user activity with third parties. The most prominent example is when external advertisements on a website are automatically tailored based on the user's online activity. For example, if an online newspaper reader regularly read a dozen financial articles every day and then happened to read a golf match report, activity tracking might mean an advertising network still delivered an ad related to the stock market. Of course, there are also cases where the activity for less reasonable use.
