APT Editorial at Two Michigan Dailies

Posted
By: E&P Staff Michigan's Port Huron Times Herald and Battle Creek Enquirer, both Gannett dailies, consolidated their newsroom systems by adopting the former's Falcon Editorial from Advanced Publishing Technology, Burbank, Calif. The change was made after examining the newspapers' differences and considering how the change would impact their business.

A longtime APT customer, the Times Herald upgraded to Adobe InDesign and Falcon Editorial a year ago. The Enquirer was on a different Mac-based editorial system.

Both sites worked with APT staff to ensure that all logistics and details of the consolidation were handled. Falcon manages the two papers, sharing resources between the sites while maintaining their individual identities. The latest version of Falcon Editorial was designed to streamline editorial process and support multi-site implementation, according to APT.

The cross-platform system features a Web browser interface for remote access and full-text searching, supports AP WebFeeds, can automatically route stories as XML to the Web and other outputs, and works with all current layout and word-processor programs.
