By: E&P Staff "Arctic Circle" will make its print and online debut next Monday in newspapers such as the Houston Chronicle, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Denver Rocky Mountain News, The Oregonian of Portland, The Daily Herald in Provo, Utah, and the Southland Times in Invercargill, New Zealand.
Alex Hallatt's comic strip (the subject of a June 4 E&P item) stars a trio of penguins -- the cheeky Oscar, the laid-back Gordo, and the geeky Ed. These three immigrants moved to the North Pole to escape mistakes they made in Antarctica.
Other characters include grumpy polar bear Frank, gullible lemming Lenny, ruthless tern Hector, and intellectual snow bunny Howard.
Hallatt has been an immigrant herself, living in England and the U.S. before moving in 2003 to New Zealand, where she recently became a citizen.
In addition to her work on "Arctic Circle,"
Hallatt creates cartoon illustrations for newspapers, books, and magazines, and develops Flash animation for TV, games, corporate presentations, e-cards, and Web sites.
